Our Doonan Dog Deshedding service is a practical groom for malting/shedding coats to remove excess hair for the comfort of your dog. We offer a 4 step de-shedding process, your dog will shed less for up to 6 weeks!

Some of the dog breeds that benefit mostly from this dog deshedding service are Labrador, Pug, Golden Retriever, Border Collie, Bulldog, Dachshund, Husky, Cattle Dog, Pomeranian, Cavalier and Chihuahua.

Bathing

Bathing is the most important part of dog grooming, for healthy skin and coat we do a triple wash of your dog to really get down to the skin and remove every bit of dirt, sand and unpleasant odours.  The benefits of a triple wash can include the removal of loose hair, scale and debris and improve the shine of the coat also assists with our grooming techniques as our equipment is easier to use on a properly cleaned coat.

We only use Australian made organic, 100% vegan Shampoo and Conditioner, enriched with organic essential oils Tea Tree, Peppermint and Eucalyptus to add moisture and naturally cool the skin leaving your dog’s coat smelling fresh and clean.  The conditioning treatment is a gentle conditioner that nourishes and balances the canine skin it controls frizz and fly aways, increases shine and detangles the coat.

As part of the Dog Deshedding 4 step process we conduct a Wet Blowout on Shampoo number 2.  This is an essential step in loosening and removing the undercoat that can sometimes be clumping on the skin.  This it is not harmful at all to your dog it is simply a blast of warm air onto their wet coat and the loose undercoat falls easily off the body into the bath.

Ears and Eyes

When it comes to ears and eyes they never get overlooked as part of our dog grooming services.  For cleaning the ears we use an alcohol-free solution that works to remove wax and debris from the ear canal it also contains a drying agent to reduce moisture.  For cleaning the eyes we simply use a gentle flow of warm water and if required a grooming comb is used to get rid of any dust, dirt and gunk from the tear-stained area.

Blow Dry

Now that your dog is super clean and shiny we need to blow dry their coat to remove all moisture, this prevents hot spots and unsightly cowlicks!  We use the latest pet drying technology to create a quality finish, it leaves the coat feeling smooth and much easier to comb while performing our dog grooming techniques.  We use a variety of grooming tools whilst blow drying to fluff up and straighten the coat to get your dog ready for the next step of their groom.

Combing

The most common dog grooming tool used in the next step of De-Shedding is the curry comb, it’s a silicone brush that we move in gentle circular motions all over the coat of your dog.  The teeth of the brush pull out dead hair at the same time it stimulates the skin and promotes production of natural oils that maintain a healthy, shiny coat.  For shorter coats the de-shedding blade is a useful tool to drag out further dead/old hair and for double coats finger plucking methods are very valuable to create a polished look and encourage new hair growth.

Hygiene

A tidy up of the belly & butt / hygiene areas is recommended regularly to avoid urine and fecal matter being deposited onto the fur and causing bacteria that can lead to infection and discomfort for your dog.  Keeping the fur in these sanitary areas shorter also allows the groomer to check for any skin changes such as redness, swelling, lumps or parasites which is beneficial for the health and comfort of your dog.

The Doonan Deshed recommended booking schedule is every 6 – 8weeks as our 4 step process helps to eliminate coat shedding and less vacuuming but must be maintained at regular intervals for continued satisfaction.
